Street Angel

Portada de Ángel callejero

Orphaned by the world, raised by the streets, Jesse Sánchez is a dangerous martial artist and the world’s greatest homeless skater. In Wilkesborough, the worst ghetto of Angel City, she fights ninjas, drugs, nepotism and pre-algebra as the Street Angel. That’s how, more or less, starts this, I hope, first volume.

Jim Rugg & Brian Maruca have arranged an explosive mix of pop culture references without forcing nor boring, while weaving a bittersweet subtext on the daily life in urban deserts. Do not misunderstand me: this is a really amusing and complex-less book, somewhat more schematic and senseless than usual (which will confuse more than one), but my first reaction is a smile. Nevertheless, there is something beyond this – may it be the character’s charm, Jim Rugg’s nice outline… which makes me want to read this book back again and again. Maybe it is by its hidden uber-realism: nothing is more real than dreams, and I suspect that Jesse Sánchez dreams much.

¡A true cult object!
